Winners

Greenacre Writers November Short Story Competition

Bettina von Cossel, November's Judge has chosen the winners. Congratulations!!

Bettina writes novels and short stories, mostly in German. Her crime novels are modern versions of the traditional whodunit. In other words, Miss Marple with a mobile phone.
Bettina is a big fan of research. Over the years, Bettina has become an acknowledged expert in the grisly art of credible and effective murder, of ones partner, or in fact anyone else. She is also a publisher of romance novels!

Winner
Shirley Golden - The Mad Schemes of Morris

The dark wit of this short story reminds me of those of the great Roald Dahl, and I'm a bit worried about Morris' future with this big pouncing cat in the house. The metamorphosis of Morris and finally also his wife draws great parallels to real life couples who secretly dream of a fresh start without their long-term partner. I really enjoyed reading this story, so good luck to the author. I wish him/her a great future as an author.

Second Place
Joanne Derrick – Autumn Blues

The story begins harmless enough, but bit by bit we learn that the narrator is a psychopath with a reasoning of his own. A killer who has the 'grace' to announce his plan but no mercy for those who fail to understand the announcement. I really enjoyed reading this story, it is a beautifully portrayed insight into a killer's mind.

Third Place
Dianne Bown-Wilson – Benny and Doll's Nice Day Out
I found the story heartwarming and lovely. It portrays well how society often see the elderly, and how the old like to hide their declining abilities from family and the outside world.
I really enjoyed reading this story. Congratulations to the author!
