I always like stories where I get to know the main character well, and where an event leads to a much needed change in his/her behaviour or attitude. My personal favourites in the anthology were A Perfect World, Chocolate in Summer, Fallen Women, The Veteran and Trophies. I liked God the Homeless too. I found it challenged me to think and it was "different" in an interesting way. Quite often in competitions a winner will be one with a very good plot, something few other people have thought of.

I'm wary of short story anthologies because my experience has often been of depressing, tedious stories that get caught up in poetic descriptions but don't really get going! But I loved this book from page one. The stories are each very different and instantly grab you. They are the perfect length to dip in and out. I felt energised after the first few pages. No wonder it won a prize in the National Association of Writers Groups! I highly recommend it.
